More on the SARTRE ‘vehicle platooning’ project

Reported by the BBC here. Two observations: firstly, this describes the assembled platoons, or ‘road trains as it prefers to call them, as “handled by a professional driver who would monitor the status of the road train”. How many of these professional drivers are we going to need, cruising up and down the motorways hoping to find other drivers wanting to join their convoys?

Secondly, the “project co-ordinator at engineering firm Ricardo” which is the lead contractor is called Tom Robinson – surely not the same one responsible for 2-4-6-8 Motorway?
